CHICAGO — Villanova’s women’s basketball team secured a hard-fought 62-56 victory over DePaul on Wednesday night, led by a spectacular 30-point performance from sophomore guard Maddie Webber. In a game that was tight from start to finish, Webber’s scoring prowess and clutch shooting proved to be the difference as the Wildcats (14-11) notched another crucial conference win.
Webber was electric from the opening tip, showcasing her scoring versatility with a mix of three-pointers, mid-range jumpers, and strong finishes at the rim. Her career-high 30 points came on an efficient shooting night, and she played a pivotal role in keeping Villanova in control during key stretches of the game.
DePaul (12-15) put up a strong fight, using its defensive pressure to slow Villanova’s offensive flow early on. The Blue Demons managed to keep the game within reach, but every time they threatened to take the lead, Webber responded with a big shot. Her ability to create her own offense gave the Wildcats a reliable go-to option down the stretch.
Defensively, Villanova held firm when it mattered most, limiting DePaul’s second-chance opportunities and forcing key turnovers in the final minutes. The Wildcats’ balanced team effort, combined with Webber’s scoring explosion, helped them seal the victory and continue their push in Big East play.
With this breakout performance, Webber continues to establish herself as one of Villanova’s top offensive threats. If she can build on this momentum, the Wildcats will be a tough matchup for any opponent heading into the final stretch of the season.
Villanova will look to carry this energy into their next game as they prepare to face Xavier on February 16th at 2 P.M.
