Written by on January 23, 2025

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova faced a tough challenge on the road Wednesday night, falling 100-57 to No. 6 Connecticut at Gampel Pavilion. The Wildcats (10-10, 4-4 BIG EAST) struggled to recover from an early deficit, despite strong performances from Jasmine Bascoe, Maddie Burke, and Maddie Webber.

Bascoe led Villanova with 15 points, including three three-pointers, and contributed four assists. Burke and Webber each added 11 points, with Burke securing a team-high seven rebounds.

The Wildcats briefly held the lead after a Denae Carter layup, but UConn quickly responded with a 12-0 run. Villanova fought back in the second quarter, cutting the deficit to 11, but the Huskies answered with a dominant 19-1 surge before halftime, extending their advantage to 58-32.

UConn shot an impressive 70% from the field in the first half, compared to Villanova’s 45%. The Huskies continued to control the game in the second half, limiting Villanova’s offensive rhythm. Bascoe provided a spark in the third quarter, but UConn’s depth proved too much to overcome.

Sarah Strong led all scorers with 22 points for UConn, followed by Paige Bueckers with 21.

Villanova now looks ahead to a home matchup against Xavier on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Finneran Pavilion, aiming to get back in the win column.
