On Monday afternoon in Providence, Rhode Island, Villanova beat Brown 9-5 in a strong outing. Villanova’s Colin Michener led the team with four goals and an assist on the night. Villanova is now 6-3 on the year, and Brown falls to 1-7.

The scoring started early in the first quarter. Michener scored nearly three minutes in. Brown then scored to tie the game up, but Michener responded with another goal, shooting top right corner. Brown scored to respond, tying the game again at 2-2 to close off the quarter.

The second quarter found the Wildcats coming out strong and early. Michener scored again, his third goal on the night, followed by another goal from him to stretch it to four goals on the night for him. These two goals put Villanova up 4-2. Brown scored a goal, and then Villanova’s Mason Reale responded with a goal of his own to allow the Wildcats to go into the half up with a 5-3 lead.

In the third quarter, Villanova scored three straight goals from Dan Martin, Reale, and Matt Licata, respectively. Matt Licata has at least a goal in every game this season.

Ultimately, the Wildcats put too much pressure on Brown. The Bears could not respond, eventually losing to Villanova 9-5. It was a great team effort from the Wildcats, with multiple players from the roster contributing to the win.

Villanova looks to open Big East Conference play on Saturday vs. Denver at noon EST.
