Villanova Men’s Lacrosse Loses to #9 Denver

Written by on April 1, 2024

On Saturday afternoon, the Villanova Wildcats lost to #9 Denver, 9-6, at the Villanova Stadium. Justin Coppola, the Wildcats’ lead faceoff guy was hurt, so the team was not able to gain possession of the ball at the usual rate.

Villanova’s Dan Martin scored the game’s first goal three minutes in. Since then, the Wildcats have yet to score for an extended period. Villanova’s Colin Michener then scored another goal, tying the game up 2-2 at that point. Denver then scored, but Matt Licata scored again to tie the game at three apiece going into the half.

Denver, after the halftime break, went on a big scoring run. They scored four goals straight. Then, Nicholas Lucchesi scored a goal for Villanova, but Denver kept their momentum and scored two more to increase their wide lead to 9-4. Villanova’s Will Wheeler scored a goal to help the Wildcats. But it simply was not good enough, and Villanova lost 9-6.

Luchessi, as well as Martin, led the Wildcats with two points apiece. Michael Lampert led Denver with two goals and two assists.

Villanova will play next Saturday against Big East opponent Providence at noon.
