Villanova Softball Tabbed as Big East Favorite in Preseason Poll

Written by on February 1, 2025

VILLANOVA, Pa — For the second consecutive year, Villanova Softball has been selected as the preseason favorite in the Big East Softball Preseason Coaches’ Poll, receiving five first-place votes and totaling 47 points. This ranking follows a historic 2024 campaign in which the Wildcats claimed their fourth straight Big East regular-season title and secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament.

Last season, Villanova finished with an impressive 36-22 overall record, including a dominant 18-6 mark in conference play. With key returners leading the charge, the Wildcats are well-positioned to maintain their stronghold in the Big East. Standout pitcher Kelsey White, who posted a 1.98 ERA and 17 wins last season, is expected to be a crucial component of the team’s success. Additionally, slugger Ryan Henry, who led the team with 12 home runs and 42 RBIs, will once again be a focal point of the Wildcats’ offensive attack.

Head Coach Bridget Orchard, instrumental in shaping Villanova’s winning culture, is eager to build on the team’s momentum. With a talented mix of seasoned veterans and promising newcomers, the Wildcats will be looking to defend their title and make another deep postseason run.

With the target on their backs as the team to beat, Villanova will aim to prove their preseason ranking is no fluke when they take the field this spring. The Wildcats open their 2025 campaign on February 9th, where they will look to set the tone for another championship-caliber season.
