Villanova vs. Oklahoma Preview
Written by David Szczepanski on December 2, 2022
After a disappointing road trip to Portland for the Phil Knight Invitational, the Wildcats return home for a battle against 6-1 Oklahoma at the Wells Fargo Center.
Villanova Preview
The Wildcats have lost four straight games but have not technically lost a game at a home venue yet this season. Although the Wildcats scored more points recently on the road trip, slow starts and defensive issues have plagued the team.
In this game on Saturday, the Wildcats will look for most of their offensive scoring to come from the big three: Eric Dixon, Caleb Daniels, and Brandon Slater. Brendan Hausen has also been incorporated more into the rotation for Villanova after some solid three-point shooting in Portland. Villanova is expecting Cam Whitmore to return soon, but there still has been no specific date given by the team.
A Glance at the Opponent
Oklahoma has won six straight games since dropping their season opener against Sam Houston at home. In that span, the Sooners have beaten each team by at least four points including a huge 77-64 victory over Seton Hall in the ESPN Events Invitational.
The Sooners best offensive scorer is Grant Sherfield, a senior guard from Texas. Sherfield is averaging 15.6 points this season after scoring twenty-five points against Seton Hall on November 25th. However, the Sooners also receive good offensive and defensive contributions from Tanner Groves, who leads Oklahoma in rebounds.
