Villanova WBB Falls to Creighton, 70-57, in BIG EAST Matchup

Written by on February 9, 2025

VILLANOVA, PA. – Villanova struggled to contain Creighton’s late-game surge, falling 70-57 at the Finneran Pavilion on Saturday. The Wildcats now stand at 13-11 overall and 7-5 in the BIG EAST, while the Bluejays improve to 20-4 and 12-1 in conference play.

Despite a strong push in the second quarter that brought them within two points, Villanova couldn’t keep pace with Creighton’s efficient shooting and defense. The Bluejays controlled the boards and capitalized on key possessions, making it difficult for the Wildcats to gain momentum. A critical 7-0 Bluejays run late in the fourth quarter sealed the outcome, as Villanova struggled to generate offense down the stretch.

Jasmine Bascoe led Villanova with 21 points, seven rebounds, and four assists, while Denae Carter contributed 13 points and eight rebounds. Creighton’s Lauren Jensen scored a game-high 25 points, and Morgan Maly recorded a double-double with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Molly Mogensen also chipped in 12 points for the Bluejays.

Statistically, Villanova shot 41.1% from the field but struggled from three-point range, making just 4-of-17 attempts. Creighton was more efficient, shooting 43.3% overall and 38.1% from beyond the arc. The Bluejays also edged out Villanova in rebounding, 35-31.

The Wildcats will look to bounce back on Wednesday night when they travel to face DePaul. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m. ET.
