Villanova WBB secures win over Marquette on Senior Night

VILLANOVA, PA. — On February 22nd, Senior night for Villanova was a success, taking win in a Big East conference matchup against Marquette 64-39 at Finneran Pavilion.
Villanova is now 22-6 overall and 15-4 in Big East putting the team in second place in the conference, right behind number one, UConn Huskies.
Sophomore, Jasmine Bascoe led the Wildcats with 18 points and 7 assists, shooting 40% from the field. Senior, Denae Carter contributed 14 points and 5 rebounds, finishing with the second most points. Freshman, Kennedy Henry also contributed to the win with 13 points and 3 rebounds, shooting an efficient 85% from the field.
Villanova controlled the entire game, not giving up the lead. Finishing the first half leading 29-18. The Wildcats made sure to make a statement on Senior Night with a 10-0 run in the first quarter. Villanova defense protected all sides of the court, only allowing Marquette to score 5 points in the first.
The Wildcats carried that same energy into the second half. Bascoe and the team continued to apply pressure defensively and did not allow Marquette (16-11 overall, 8-10 Big East) to find any rhythm offensively. Strong ball movement and smart shot selection helped extend the lead even further in the second half. Villanova stayed aggressive on both ends of the floor by forcing tough shots and capitalizing on scoring opportunities. By the fourth quarter, the Wildcats had full control of the game, maintaining their lead and closing out Senior Night the right way.
As a team, Villanova’s defense was the key factor in the win, holding Marquette to just 39 points. Their scoring and defense balanced the game allowing them to remain dominant from start to finish. With this win, Villanova shot 44% from the field, 18% from beyond the arc, and 88% at the free throw line.
Villanova return to the court on February 26th against Seton Hall at South Orange Village, New Jersey.
