Final Score: Villanova- 10 Richmond- 20

Villanova falls to 3-3 after a tough offensive game in Richmond.

Game Recap

Villanova’s defense made some improvements by only allowing 20 points to Richmond’s offense, which is led by one of the top CAA quarterbacks. However, the offense immensely struggled against Richmond.

Connor Watkins went 11-26 with only 146 yards and an interception. The Wildcats only converted 17 first downs compared to the Spiders’ 22 first downs. Villanova’s offense also fumbled and had the ball for five less minutes than Richmond.

In addition to the struggling passing game on Saturday, Villanova failed to get the ground game going. TD Ayo-Durojaiye had a solid performance with 11 carries for 106 yards including a spectacular 51-yard run. However, the rest of the Villanova rushing attack only accumulated 23 yards without Jalen Jackson. Watkins scrambled 11 times and lost 13 yards. Overall, Villanova’s offense had a tough time on Saturday afternoon.

Richmond’s QB, Reece Udinski, only completed 16 passes for 104 yards with an interception. However, Richmond did improve and utilize their running game by using multiple running backs for a total of 227 yards and one rushing touchdown. Although Villanova did not let Udinski beat them in the air, their rushing defense struggled once again, which has been a theme throughout this season. Richmond’s kicker, Andrew Lopez, earned CAA special teams player of the week with two field goals.
