Seven fire companies and emergency service providers in Chester and Delaware counties were awarded a total of $148,208 in state grants for facility upgrades, equipment, education, and recruitment. “These grants are a testament to our continued support of our first responders,” said Shusterman, a Democrat representing Tredyffrin, Easttown, Schuylkill and Willistown townships. Shusterman thanked Gov. Josh Shapiro’s administration for the funding, noting the emergency services providers keep the communities safer.

In other news, a New Jersey man was found with an unloaded gun at the Philadelphia International Airport on Friday, according to Transportation Security Administration. TSA officers stopped the man from bringing his handgun onto a flight on Friday. The gun was unloaded, but the man had 14 bullets tucked into his carry-on bag near the firearm. In addition to the citation by airport police, he now faces a stiff financial civil penalty. The penalty for carrying weapons recently increased to a maximum of $15,000.
